Barriers remain in place to keep drivers off the structure.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and county highway crews in conjunction with the city of Nortonville closed the bridge as a safety measure due to results from a recent inspection, Post 2 Public Information Officer Rob Austin reported.

Barriers have been placed on the bridge as well as notification provided to local residents. Officials said the city is having issues with individuals removing the barriers.

KSP indicated troopers are patrolling the area to ensure the barriers remain in place.

KSP would like to remind everyone that altering a traffic control device or barrier is punishable per state statute.

According to KRS, “a person shall not attempt to or in fact alter, twist, deface, injure, knock down, or interfere with the effective operation of any official traffic control device or signal, or any part thereof.”

As a reminder, KSP said the barriers are to ensure the safety of the residents and others traveling along the route near the New Salem Bridge.
