Powell 12 27MADISONVILLE, Ky. (12/27/17) — A Madisonville driver apparently having one for the road was arrested Tuesday afternoon.

Madisonville Police Department reported receiving information from several callers shortly before 1 p.m. that a vehicle along East Center Street near I-69 was seen weaving “all over the road.”

Officer Hollis Crowley responded to the area, reporting the driver was stopped upon a curb at the intersection and almost hit a light pole.

After turning on the blue lights, Marty Powell, 57 of Madisonville continued “weaving all over the roadway” toward Valley Drive, unaware of the situation, according to the report.

“I had to use my emergency sirens to get (Powell) to stop the vehicle,” Crowley wrote.

After speaking to Powell, the officer said he could smell a strong odor of alcohol and saw an open alcohol container in the cup holder that was three-quarter empty. The officer also reported he did not conduct a field sobriety test due to the man’s level of intoxication (.285-breathalyzer scale) and inability to walk, and instead carried Powell to the squad car.

Powell was charged with DUI (aggravated/third offense). He was released from Hopkins County Jail today on $1,000 cash bond.
