Emerson 12 28MADISONVILLE, Ky. (12/28/17) — City police reported finding a man passed out in the driver’s seat of vehicle Wednesday night.

Madisonville Police Department responded to a call about suspicious people near a maroon Buick in the area of Coleman Street at 9:12 p.m. The officer was able to rouse Kelly S. Emerson, 40 of Madisonville, according to the arrest report. Emerson, who was in the driver's seat, began rolling down the window manually although it was power controlled, and then opened the door.

The report revealed officers detected a strong odor of marijuana. After a search of the Buick, a joint was found in the ashtray and a glass jar with a substance believed to contain marijuana residue, digital scale, a plastic baggie with possible methamphetamine and pills that appeared to be ecstasy in a backpack. Police also found $160 cash in Emerson’s pocket.

He was charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (meth/less than 2 grams), first-degree possession of a controlled substance, public intoxication (excludes alcohol) and possession of marijuana.
Emerson was released from Hopkins County Jail today on his own recognizance.

MPD also released the following report today:

Shana M. Wood of Bremen was charged Dec. 27 with failure to appear (Caldwell County).
