Smith A 12 30MADISONVILLE, Ky. (12/30/17) — Residents were awoken by an uninvited guest early Thursday morning after a man dressed in camouflage allegedly kicked in the door at a Grapevine Road home.

Madisonville Police Department officers on patrol at 4:25 a.m. were stationed in the area of South Franklin Street and East McLaughlin, when they reported seeing Alvin Smith, 47 of Madisonville, walking down the middle of the road looking back at officers with every other step he took.

A patrolman tried to make contact with Smith, who quickly went into a South Franklin Street residence and out a back door, according to the report. Units stationed on Grapevine Road reported seeing the man go into another home. The homeowner told officers that he and his wife were in bed when their door was kicked in.

Their sudden houseguest was said to have told the couple to be “quiet” and “the cops were after him,” MPD reported. Several minutes passed and the residents opened the door. Police quickly detained Smith, who explained he had smoked synthetic marijuana, providing an incorrect identity.

Smith was charged with second-degree burglary, public intoxication, second-degree fleeing or evading police, identity theft in addition to failure to appear and parole violation. He was listed as being held today in Hopkins County Jail on $7,000 cash bond.
