Workshops posterMADISONVILLE, Ky. (2/8/18) — Glema Mahr Center for the Arts announced two upcoming Dance Workshops with Brooklyn, New York choreographer Ronald K. Brown.

The free classes are open to all ages, dancers or non-dancers, that incorporate meditation and floor work including stretching and mind-body centering exercises.

The Class schedule is listed below:

• Celebrate Spirituality through Movement Liturgical Dance Workshop — 3:30-5:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25 at Browning Springs Middle School gymnasium.

• Community Class — 4-6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26 at Rosenwald-Smith Multi-Cultural Center.

Brown’s Evidence Dance Company focuses on the seamless integration of traditional African dance with contemporary choreography and spoken word.

The Dance Company will take center stage at the Glema Tuesday, Feb. 27. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $14, $19 and $14.

A core part of the Evidence mission is to bring community engagement and cultural connections to every region it visits. Through these programs, Evidence’s goal is to increase access to arts education, to teach children and adults about cultural heritage and tradition and to support practitioners of dance through training and mentorship. Outreach can include traditional dance activities or may be centered on current works in the Evidence repertory.

Performance and educational activities are funded in part by a grant from South Arts in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. Additional support provided by the Juanita Badgett Performing Arts Endowment, the Anne P. Baker Endowment for Sustained Excellence in the Arts and Janet and Frank Corum.
