UPDATE (4:30 p.m.): HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (2/21/18) — Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office reported Robert Woodward, 73 and Christopher Summers, 32 of Dawson Springs were asked by a neighbor for help with someone believed to be stealing a trailer early this morning.

A man identified as Joseph Scott Eli, 49 of Dawson Springs, left the scene and was followed by Woodward and Summers, HCSO reported. Eli returned to Hopkins County, stopping in front of a barn along Logan Road. An altercation took place, shots were fired and Eli fled the scene, according to the report.

Eli was found a short time later after running his vehicle off Kirkwood Springs Road, deputies said. At about 7:30 a.m., authorities discovered Eli had been shot. He was taken by Medical Center Ambulance to Baptist Health for treatment.

HCSO also lists that Woodward was taken to Baptist Health for treatment of injuries sustained during the altercation. He was treated and released. The report does not list any charges, and the incident is still under investigation.

Dawson Springs Police Department, Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office, Madisonville Police Department and Charleston Fire Department assisted.

UPDATE: HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (2/21/18) — Hopkins County Sheriff's Office reported this morning's shooting incident originated as a possible theft call in Caldwell County.

Two individuals followed a man into Hopkins County, where an alercation occurred on Logan Road and shots were fired, HCSO indicated. 

The man drove off and later wrecked off Kirkwood Springs Road. The person shot is receving medical attention at Baptist Health Madisonville in addition to another individual.

Deputies responded at approximately 7:23 a.m. They are still working to piece together all the facts.

HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (2/21/18) — A man has been shot in Hopkins County early this morning. He is alive, authorities said.

Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the shooting. A man is being treated for a gunshot wound, HCSO said.

It is believed deputies are towing a vehicle related to the incident somewhere off Kentucky 70 in Hopkins County. One person may be in custody.

More information will be provided as it becomes available.
