City Council 3 6MADISONVILLE, Ky. (3/6/18) — Madisonville City Council approved a $425,000 bid for the construction of a new miniature golf course at City Park.

Councilman and Tourism Chair Adam Townsend requested the bid go to Harris Miniature Golf Co. based in New Jersey, noting the price includes landscaping and lighting.

Adventure Golf Services also submitted a bid of $415,000 that did not include landscaping and lighting additions. The city anticipates work would be complete in late summer.

The miniature golf course will be situated near the City Golf Course proshop and Elmer Kelley Stadium, where the venue will consist of at least 9 of 18 holes ADA compliant. Recent upgrades to the stadium restrooms made the location ideal, city officials said last month. Restaurant tax dollars will fund the project.

The city also awarded a $675,446 bid to Bobby Luttrell and Sons LLC for a water line extension along the North Side pressure zone, a $734,500 bid to Phoenix Fabricators and Erectors LLC for the water storage tank and foundation in addition to a $119,000 bid to American Fire Training for a fire training facility at Madisonville Fire Department Station 4.

In other business, the council heard first reading of an ordinance to enter into a five-year franchise agreement with Atmos Energy. The natural gas company would pay the city 1 percent of its gross revenue, which generates about $13,000 of income for the city per quarter.

The city accepted Mayor David Jackson’s appointments of Bart Allen and Martha Phelps to the YAA Board, and approved a request from planning and zoning for a water connection at an Otter Lake Loop residence in Hanson.

Jackson recognized firemen Shane Rigney and Greg Dietrich for each serving 10 years at the city fire department.
