KFB Legislative Drive In 1

HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (3/10/18) — The annual Kentucky Farm Bureau Legislative Drive-In/Food Check-Out Day brought members from more than 85 counties to Frankfort this week. The agriculture advocates delivered more than 140 food baskets to lawmakers including Gov. Matt Bevin, Hopkins County Extension Office reported.

Kentucky Farm Bureau Agency Managers Jarrett Brown,Travis Ipox and Hopkins County Farm Bureau President Curtis Dame and Board Director Brian Welch traveled to Frankfort to meet Sen. C.B. Embry and other respective legislators during the annual food day.

Traditionally, the event has been held two separate days, reserved for KFB members to inform legislators of their priority issues and legislation they support in addition to bringing awareness to food costs in Kentucky and across the nation.

The USDA Economic Research Service estimates Americans spend about 7 percent of their incomes on food annually, which means it would take four weeks to earn enough money to pay for a year’s supply of food.

Farm Bureau officials' legislative priorities include maintaining sales tax exemptions for production agriculture, opposition of freezing state real property tax and support of the rural secondary and county road aid programs in addition to the 22.2 percent allocation of state gasoline tax revenue for rural roads.
