Dawson 4DAWSON SPRINGS, Ky. (3/13/18) — Several Dawson Springs residents turned out in the cold weather today as movie extras and sightseers during  a filming segment of “The Silent Natural.”

Extras were asked to wear 1886 period clothing at the Riverside Park sports field in Dawson Springs. The cast includes actors Sam J. Jones, Tyler Mane, Courtney Gains and others.

Local resident Brent Menser was dressed for the occasion in his bowtie and top hat, saying he would stand in if needed. Information about the movie will be on display at Dawson Springs Museum for people to see. There was no information available concerning when the movie will be available for viewing.

Baseball fan and Dawson Springs Mayor Jenny Sewell dressed the part as an extra, sporting a blue hat. Other locals could also be seen in the stands including Joseph Morgan, Ivana Morgan along with Tommy and Judy Gunn.

The movie is about one of the first deaf Major League Baseball players during the 1800s. William Hoy, nicknamed “Dummy Hoy,” was said to have introduced hand signs that the game still uses currently for “strike” and “ball”. Steve Sandy was instrumental in getting Dummy Hoy inducted into the Cincinnati Hall of Fame.

David Risotto of California is the producer and also wrote the screen play. Daryl Phillips of Murray was portraying Tom Lovett and Travis Cunningham of Hopkinsville was playing the part of Bishop during today’s filming in Dawson Springs.
