NORTONVILLE, Ky. (4/14/18) — Schoolchildren and Hopkins County Schools transportation personnel delighted in the sunny and warmer weather this week during a Southside Elementary bus evacuation safety drill.
Bus Driver Star Wallace said she usually interacts with 30-58 children, and Thursday was a good day for all the students to practice how to exit a school bus should an evacuation situation arise.
“They need to be able to get off the bus within two minutes,” she said. “They learn how to jump from the back door properly and how to get out of the side and front doors safely.”
Wallace added that children are always more excited to exit from the back of the bus during the drills, which are conducted four times per year at each school in the district.
