HCL 4 23MADISONVILLE, Ky. (4/23/18) — Hopkins County-Madisonville Public Library hosted its third annual authors reception over the weekend.

Library programming and marketing coordinator Ashley Buchanan said 27 authors attended a meet and greet Saturday to answer questions about their books and the adventures of being an author.

Nearly half of the in-house authors were new to the event. Buchanan said she loved celebrating local talent and all the authors present were either from Kentucky or currently reside in the state.

The authors represented an array of genres, from romance and science fiction to mystery and childrens’ books.

Cassie Gibson was at the library with her first novel recently published through Amazon. Her book, titled, “Fierce,” is a paranormal romance with werewolves set on the south-eastern Kentucky-Tennessee line in the mountains.

Gibson, who is a psychiatric nurse at Western State Hospital, said she began writing as a stress reliever or escape from the tensions of her job and discovered she loved it. She explained that writing is fun and she enjoys it. Her friends read the novel and encouraged her to submit it. She is currently working on a second novel.

Author Eddie Price, who was a high school history teacher for 36 years, said his first love is historical fiction. He has written two historical fiction books that he says are very well researched and set in Kentucky including “Widder’s Landing” and “One Drop-a Slave.”

Price has also gotten his feet wet in the children’s arena with “Little Miss Grubby Toes” and her escapades.

The reception allowed readers of all ages a chance to meet some authors and purchase new books. Buchanan hopes the event continues to grow.
