EnvisionHOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (5/15/18) — A West Broadway Elementary fourth grader will join outstanding peers from across the nation to take part in the National Youth Leadership Forum Pathway’s to STEM at Bowling Green State University in Ohio over summer break.

According to an Envision Leadership press release, Mackenzie Elkins of Madisonville was nominated for the opportunity by her teacher, Kristin Duff. She has maintained all A’s Honor Roll, and participates in archer and was a member of the Regional Champion Academic Team.

Elkins, the daughter of Katie Elkins of Madisonville and Jesse Nelson of Benton, also takes part in the school news program, recently placed third in the Young Author’s Festival and won first in her classroom 4H speech contest. She aspires to be a pastry chef and open her own bakery.

“NYLF Pathway’s to STEM is a great opportunity for high-achieving scholars to get outside the classroom and see, through hands-on interactive learning, how to innovate and think creatively,” Envision Chief Academic Officer Andrew Potter said. “These students, who have already proven themselves academically, will be challenged to work on real-world, student-created projects to bring their studies and career interests to life.”

Envision indicated its programs have served more than 800,000 students in more than 145 countries in programs to help students develop leadership, scholarship and career skills.
