Cooking Flyer 2018MADISONVILLE, Ky. (5/15/18) — First United Bank will host its annual Cooking for The Cure event Friday, May 25, at the main banking center in Downtown Madisonville.

Staff will be grilling burgers and chicken for sale 11-2 p.m. The sandwich comes with chips, a dessert and drink for $5. Both eat in and carry out options are available. Bankers encourage people to plan ahead for large lunch orders or delivery by calling 270-821-5555.

A special addition this year will be the Sumo Wrestling event, taking place at 12:30 p.m. on the bank lawn the day of the cookout. Twelve professionals from the community have volunteered to raise money for Relay for a chance to don an inflated sumo wrestling outfit and try to “pin” their opponent.

Madisonville Police Department Officer Clay Stroud was last year's Sumo champion.

Participants are Deputy Josh Gunn, Hopkins County Sheriff's Office; Tyler Moore, Hopkins County Board of Education; Clay Stroud, MPD; Meaghan Teal, Murray State University; Heather Roy, MSU; Cameron Edwards, Baptist Health; Brein Terry, Board of Realtors; Don Fishman, Habitat for Humanity; Henry Strader, Madisonville Fire Department; Logan McGary, Hopkins County Young Professionals; Will Cox, Wm M Cox Law and Jason Hawkins, First United Bank.

The community is encouraged to stop by the bank’s main office and donate to see their favorite on the wrestling mat Friday. The top eight fundraisers out of the 12 participants will compete, organizers said.

The Cooking for the Cure event is one of several fundraisers the bank holds for Relay for Life. In the past, First United staff members said they have raised as much as $7,000 during the campaign.

Bank President Jason Hawkins says he loves how all the workers get involved.

“Our staff never ceases to amaze me each year with their creativity and commitment to supporting Relay," Hawkins said. “We just have so much fun for a good cause.”
