Richey JanHOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (5/22/18) — Jan Richey has been selected as South Hopkins Middle School principal, school officials announced today. For the past seven years, she has served as the school’s assistant principal.

“I’m excited and thankful for this opportunity,” Richey said. “My goal is to continue to ensure that meeting our students’ needs and increasing their opportunities for success are the driving forces behind every decision made.”

Richey’s education career spans more than 20 years. She previously was a teacher at Grapevine and West Broadway elementary schools. She has also been a Madisonville Community College instructor since 2003.

“Jan Richey, having served as an assistant principal at South Hopkins Middle School for seven years, certainly knows the faculty, staff and community – but especially the students,” said Hopkins County Schools Superintendent Deanna Ashby. “She has a deep love for the school and its traditions. I know she will give 110 percent to continuing the school pride and warm culture.”

She earned a bachelor’s degree in regular education and special education at Morehead State University, master’s degree in reading and writing from Murray State University, Rank 1 in curriculum and instruction from Indiana Wesleyan University, and principalship certification from University of the Cumberlands.

She will succeed Stuart Fitch, who is retiring.
