ARSON INVESTIGATIONMADISONVILLE, Ky. (7/5/18) — Madisonville Police Department is investigating three fires that occurred overnight in the city.

All three fires were suspicious in nature, police said. Two of the blazes involved fireworks stands and a Park Row residence was heavily damaged.

The first blaze broke out 10:15 p.m. Wednesday at a Park Row residence. Officers reported the front porch was fully engulfed in flames and growing rapidly.

Several tankers from Madisonville Fire Department responded to bring the fire under control.

Detectives have not yet determined what caused that fire, MPD Lt. Andy Rush said.

At 3:45 a.m., there was a wild Fourth of July fireworks display that no one would want to encounter.

Police reported a fireworks stand on the corner of South Main Street and East McLaughlin Avenue was fully engulfed in flames.

“Fireworks were exploding around the tent making fire suppression efforts extremely dangerous,” Detective C.P. Haynie wrote.

A third blaze broke out at a fireworks tent situated off South Main near Market Place.

MPD reported MFD responded and quickly brought the flames under control, leaving minimal damage to the tent.

“All three of these fires are suspicious in nature and are currently being investigated as possible arsons,” Haynie said.

MPD asks that anyone with information about the fires to call Crime Stoppers of Hopkins County Tip Line at (270) 825-1111 or Haynie at (270) 821-1720. Cash rewards are available for tips leading to the arrest of those responsible.

A resident captured video of the fireworks exploding that has received national attention and thousands of views.
