MADISONVILLE, Ky. (7/9/18) — Lower temperatures drew one local resident out for a peaceful morning of fishing at Lake Pee Wee in Madisonville today. Weather forecasters predict the heat index is heading back toward triple digits this week.

Dennis Stanley was trying his luck to lure a few fish, saying he had some small catches and tossed them back into the lake. He also explained from his experience, it has just been too hot lately for the fish to bite, so he headed back to shore.

Fishing is not the only activity offered at the public lake, which is Madisonville’s main water source. There’s also beautiful scenery along with various wildlife like colorful butterflies and dragonflies this time of year.

The city announced today that the Lake Pee Wee dock and parking area will be closed July 17-18 to allow Madisonville Fire Department to conduct training exercises. The boat ramp off Tucker Schoolhouse Road will still be open for public use.

The city allows fishing 30 minutes before sunrise and 30 minutes after sunset on any given day. Gasoline motors are not allowed on the lake, and boats can be launched off the Lake Pee Wee roadside boat ramp. Fishing is not permitted near the intake, identified as the concrete structure, nor directly off the dam.
