Derail

MORTONS GAP, Ky. (7/9/18) — No one was injured after a CSX train derailed near Main Street in Mortons Gap this afternoon. Traffic is not blocked over the crossing.

The train was stopped about 300 yards from the Main Street crossing.

CSX officials are apparently working to clear the tracks for other train traffic. No one from CSX was available for comment at the scene, and no information about the incident was listed on the CSX website.

Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched around 3 p.m. to check the situation, where four cars had jumped the track.

HCSO Major Will Coursey said all the cars are still standing and they did not contain hazardous materials.

Hopkins County Emergency Management Agency Director Frank Wright said they are only called to assist if a train derailment involves hazardous chemicals. Wright indicated his agency was not needed today.
