PhoneScam 300MADISONVILLE, Ky. (8/7/18) — Madisonville Police Department reported today they have received information about a local phone scam.

Lt. Andy Rush indicated an unknown caller has been contacting businesses in the area claiming they are “late on their payments for electricity to the Madisonville Municipal Utilities.”

Rush explained the scammer is saying electrical service will be disconnected unless immediate payment is rendered over the phone via a credit card.

“This is a scam,” Rush wrote, adding MMU never calls customers or demands payments over the phone.
