GapMORTONS GAP, Ky. (1/8/19) — A Mortons Gap resident received surprise recognition Monday night following a Mortons Gap City Council meeting at City Hall.

Connie Crick and her husband, Marshall, pastors of Vineyard Worship Center in the old Mortons Gap School, provide area day camp two days per week in the summer months. Younger children experience day camp one day per week in lieu of weeklong Bible school.

The mayor announced Connie is a recipient of the 2019 Kentucky Governor’s Service Award.

The couple created a kids’ cafe equipped with a kitchen, TV and games — a fun place where kids can meet. The Cricks feed veterans, participate in community landscaping and gardening in addition to making mission runs to eastern Kentucky with the youth group.

Community safety is their concern, and the pastors work to improve upon that each week, council members and the mayor said.

Connie will be accepting the award tentatively set for March 6 at the governor’s office in Frankfort.

"I wasn't expecting this," she stated. "Look what my shirt says — 'Small Town Girl."'
