US41AltRtTurnLnCloseMadville011119MADISONVILLE, Ky. (1/9/18) — A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to close a turn lane at the U.S. 41/Main Street and U.S. 41-A/Nebo Road intersection in Madisonville starting Friday.

The U.S. 41-A/Nebo Road southbound right turn lane to U.S. 41/Main Street southbound will be closed for approximately one week to facilitate utility work and ongoing reconstruction for the widening of US 41-A, KYTC Spokesman Keith Todd said. This is the southbound right turn lane next to the Arby’s restaurant at the intersection.

This reconstruction and widening project runs along U.S. 41-A/Nebo Road from milepoint 0.0 at U.S. 41/Main Street in Madisonville extending northward to Yorkwood Place at milepoint 1.78.

Utility work required to prepare for construction along the project area consumed a substantial part of the first construction season and continues all along the work zone.

Road Builders LLC of Greenville is the prime contractor on this $9.1 million highway improvement project. Utility work on the project started in late-April 2018. Work is estimated to be about 25 percent complete. This project has a target completion date of Oct. 1, 2020.

This project will create an urban, four-lane highway with center turn lane along this two-lane section of U.S. 41-A, Todd reported.
