Quilt ClubMADISONVILLE, Ky. (3/17/19) — Piecemakers Quilt Club of Hopkins County plans to show a colorful exhibit through May in the newly renovated Anne P Baker Gallery at Glema Mahr Center for the Arts.

Glema Arts Administrator Toby Roberts reported a preview reception is 2-3:30 p.m. today. The “Carryin’ on the Tradition X” quilts will be on display through May 15.

“We are thrilled to have the Ann P Baker Gallery open again” Glema Director Brad Downall said. “We suffered extensive water damage last year from a frozen pipe. The gallery renovation is now complete and we are thrilled with the new wall and carpet color scheme. This colorful exhibit will look amazing.”

Piecemakers Quilt Club was established in 1989 as a result of a Madisonville Community College continuing education class, Roberts said. Its purpose is to promote and preserve quilt making.

The local chapter is active in community projects that include making baby quilts for NICU of Regional Medical Center, where they have supplied more than 2,000 of the creative designs. Last year, the club provided quilts for the Rotary Club’s Build-a-Bed program and Camp Courageous that provides year around respite care for the disabled.

Piecemakers also teach beginner classes at local quilt shops, Girl Scouts troops and 4-H.

The quilt exhibit can be viewed during gallery hours 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday through May 15.
