gavel book 300MADISONVILLE, Ky. (3/15/19) — A Madisonville woman was formally arraigned in Hopkins Circuit Court Thursday on one count of knowingly abusing or neglecting an adult.

Attorney General Andy Beshear and his Office of Medicaid Fraud and Abuse announced the indictment of 34-year-old Ashley Maypray today. She worked as an LPN at a nursing home, and “was performing medical services on the victim when she slapped the victim across the mouth and pinched then twisted the skin on the victim’s arm.” The incident allegedly took place March 7, 2018.

A Hopkins grand jury handed down the indictment Feb. 21, and a pretrial conference is scheduled May 13, Beshear’s office reported. The Office of Medicaid Fraud and Abuse/Kentucky Attorney General’s Office, Department for Community Based Services and Adult Protective Services investigated.

If convicted on the Class C felony charge, Maypray faces up to 10 years in prison and possible profession sanctions. An indictment does not mean a person is guilty of charges.

Over the past three years, the office’s work has contributed to 58 convictions for Medicaid provider fraud and patient abuse, neglect and exploitation, the attorney general’s office reported.
