basketball net 2015HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (4/11/19) — Coach Lee James has resigned from his position as Head Boys Basketball Coach at Hopkins County Central High School, school officials reported.

Coach James stated in a press release, “I will always cherish this great experience. I have been blessed with great people to work with in our basketball program. My daughter only has two years of high school remaining and I want to spend that time with her. She is a very accomplished cowgirl and archer and I don’t want to miss any opportunities to spend with her. It is time to watch her chase her dreams throughout her remaining high school and college years. Thank you for the awesome experience it has meant so much to me and I enjoyed it tremendously. Roll Storm!”

HCCHS Athletic Director Kent Akin said he is very thankful to James for what he has done for the basketball program.

"He took over our program when it was in a downward spiral and he was able to bring excitement and the expectations of winning back to our program," Akin said in a statement. "Not only will Coach James be missed as our coach on the floor, most of all he will be missed because of the way he care for and molded his basketball players into men. Coach James care more about the person then the player and we are so thankful for the three years he was our coach and he will truly be missed.”

The school will be looking for the same values in its new coach that will be able to continue the success James has started, Akin said.

James’ teams at Hopkins County Central complied a record of 49-42 during the three years he was head coach including being named second year coach of the year in a 21-win season in 2016-17. In the three seasons before James became coach, Central was 26-53.

Akins said HCCHS will being posting the job on the Hopkins County Schools website in the next day or two to start the process of accepting applications.
