ch 2MORTONS GAP, Ky. (4/13/19) — For the fourth consecutive year, area first responders and HOSA educators from Hopkins County Schools joined students to recognize Distracted Driving Month in a mock disaster drill held at Hopkins County Central High School Friday.

United Kingdom native and professional car racer Andy Pilgrim spoke to students about driving safety and road hazards, noting the U.S. has a high number of traffic fatalities. He also spoke about his friendship with the late, legendary NASCAR Champion, Dale Earnhardt.

Pilgrim, who founded the Traffic Safety Education Foundation, speaks to students in schools across the nation.

High schoolers also witnessed a mock drill rescue that included Greenville PHI-6 flight nurse Holly Marie Panazzo Shoulders along with paramedics from Medical Center Ambulance Service, Nortonville, Mortons Gap and South Hopkins fire department members, Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office deputies, School Resource Officer John Komar, Madisonville Police Department officers and Jeff’s Towing.

The event was organized by Kim Woodall, Justin Cardwell, HCCHS and HOSA, and sponsored by Mike Walker and Perry Cheek of Kentucky Farm Bureau.
