NEBO, Ky. (5/22/19) — Kentucky State Police Post 2 has confirmed the identity of the Nebo homeowner who died after a fire broke out at his residence overnight.

Hopkins County Coroner Dennis Mayfield pronounced William D. Phillips, 66, deceased at the scene, Trooper Rob Austin, Post 2 spokesman reported.

KSP responded to the single-story house fire 11:54 p.m. Tuesday to investigate.

“At the time that the call was received, it was unknown if the residence was occupied,” Austin wrote.

Phillips’ cause of death is currently unknown. He was the only person occupying the home this morning.

KSP Arson Investigator Scott Steward is continuing the investigation to find out what caused the blaze, which is not believed to be suspicious in nature.

Trooper Brian Graves, Trooper Jacob Stephens and Sgt. Jon McGehee assisted. Nebo Volunteer Fire Department, Madisonville Fire Department and Manitou, Richland, Hanson and Anton VFDs also responded to provide mutual aid along with Medical Center EMS.

NEBO, Ky. (5/22/19) — An early morning fire has apparently claimed the life of one individual at a home along Nebo Road situated at the Hopkins-Webster County line.

Emergency crews were called out to 11265 Nebo Road around 1 a.m. Authorities have not yet identified any victims related to the blaze.

Firefighters and officials cleared the scene a few hours ago, and Kentucky State Police is investigating the death. Madisonville Fire Department reported responding to Nebo 12:58 a.m. to assist Nebo in extinguishing the flames and overhaul procedures through 2:33 a.m.

Nebo Fire Department crews were called back out to the scene at 8 this morning after the fire had rekindled.
