Play Park 2MADISONVILLE, Ky. (5/30/19) — Despite lingering thunderstorms rumbling through the area, workers rushed to finish installing equipment for the “Rog” Badgett All Inclusive Play Park located on the Baptist Health Madisonville Campus this week.

According to Cameron Edwards, business development manager for Baptist Health Madisonville, the play park will meet the needs of special needs children.

Edwards told Madisonville Rotary Club, for every 1,000 children, 138 have special needs. Baptist Health has provided therapy for 1,126 of the special needs children over the past five years he said, with 29,902 visits for therapy.

Traditional playground equipment is very difficult or impossible for children with disabilities, Edwards explained. Play engages the senses and promotes social skills for children. The new play park will afford youth the opportunities to slide, spin, swing and climb. These activities are therapy in themselves and children can enjoy the time playing on the equipment.

Workers will soon be installing the poured rubber floor on the $250,000 park, situated at the Wellness Park near the hospital. Edwards said only $28,000 remained for the project to be completely funded.

A ribbon cutting ceremoney is scheduled 3 p.m. June 18. The park will be open to children and their families seven days per week. Health officials ask that children playing in the park have adult supervision.

Those wishing to support the park can do so by visiting or call Cameron Edwards at Baptist Health Madisonville.
