FNL V 2MADISONVILLE, Ky. (6/15/19) — Fort Campbell soldiers and their families visited Madisonville Friday for Military Day activities that coincided with the nation’s Flag Day and the Army’s 243rd birthday.

Locally owned First United Bank and Trust Co. treated the group of Fort Campbell families to lunch at Crowded House, and Madisonville-Hopkins County Economic Development Corp. accompanied them on a tour of Innovation Station. The military families also enjoyed gametime at The Ledge VR in Madisonville.

The city of Madisonville hosted the veterans at Madisonville City Park prior to the Friday Night Live event downtown. They were offered front-row seating for the concert alongside local veterans honored as Hometown Heroes.

EDC Business Relationship Director Melanie Tapp said Hopkins County Regional Chamber of Commerce provided vouchers for the veterans food during FNL.

“The community has really kicked in and is working together,” Tapp said.

EDC President Ray Hagerman was listening to some of the veterans, who will be exiting Fort Campbell and seeking jobs in communities.

Staff Sgt. Jason Newman, Division of Operations Manager at Fort Campbell, along with his wife, Stephanie, and son, Christian, seemed to be enjoying their tour of Madisonville. He is considering applying for a job locally. Local employers and members of the workforce board also joined the families for lunch.

“The streets seem pretty safe,” the Wisconsin native said, noting he and his family love the local cuisine and activities.

“We do have a shortage of workers in the community,” Hagerman said. “One of the pools of people that we’re most likely to look to are the folks that are exiting Fort Campbell on a monthly basis.”

The best day to host the soldiers was Friday on Flag Day he said, as a way to get to know the families one-on-one.

“We’ve been planning this for about six months,” Hagerman said, which included about 25 people from the base.
