MADISONVILLE, Ky. (6/25/19) — Dr. Festus Claybon Memorial Park upgrades should be complete by August, city officials said Monday, if the rain holds off.

The tourism/restaurant tax funded improvements will include all-inclusive playground equipment of $125,000 that will connect with the existing playground and pavilion. Workers are finishing up groundwork for the new football field at the park. New lighting also has been installed at the basketball court.

Mayor Kevin Cotton said workers are laying the pipe for lighting and drainage on the football field and parking lot, noting there was only one street light to illuminate the basketball court beforehand.

Community Improvement Foundation President Tim Thomas presented a $2,500 check from the foundation Monday to the city of Madisonville for the project. Cotton said the CIF funds would go toward an interactive panel at the new playground area.

The 19-acre public property is located off Hopewell Street in Madisonville, providing outdoor activities including a spray park.
