MADISONVILLE, Ky. (7/2/19) — A Madisonville man charged early Monday morning with DUI and accused of driving a semi erratically is in the hospital. His sister made a statement on behalf of her brother today.

Lela Davis told SurfKY News that her brother, Tyrone D. Purce, does not drink nor do drugs, and nothing drug or alcohol related was found in his vehicle.

Baptist Health Madisonville Critical Care Unit lists Purce is in stable condition this morning.

Davis said her brother may have had a diabetic episode or could had been exposed to a hazardous chemical that caused the unexplained behavior early Monday morning.

UPDATE: MADISONVILLE, Ky. (7/1/19) — Additional information was obtained from an arrest report released today regarding a truck driver’s encounter with police early this morning.

Officers were dispatched to Eastside Lane shortly after midnight related to a truck driver on the road driving at a high rate of speed, almost striking a residence, according to the report. He was previously reported to have been at Love’s Truck Stop in Hanson, screaming, yelling, banging the counter and disrobing.

An officer reported seeing a white 2016 T600 Kenworth truck stopped in the center of the street with reverse lights on, prompting the officer to turn on emergency equipment. Instead, the man identified as Tyrone D. Purce of Madisonville, drove off and blared the vehicle horn. He stopped the vehicle, got out and began running off into a yard off Eastside Lane.

Police indicated Purce ignored commands to stop and kept screaming and yelling, and then attempted to re-enter the truck. At that point, officers tasered the individual.

Police also reported the individual kicked the patrol cruiser the entire distance to Hopkins County Jail, and “spit blood” at the jail deputies and officers.

Purce was charged with DUI, resisting arrest, second-degree disorderly conduct and third-degree assault-police officer.

HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (7/1/19) — An alleged drunken and enraged semi driver was tasered and pepper-sprayed early this morning off Brown Broad in Madisonville.

According to a Madisonville Police Department news release, officers received a complaint at Love’s Truck Stop in Hanson about a man identified as 49-year-old Madisonville resident Tyrone Purce, who had been “screaming and beating on the counter.”

He left the truck stop in his semi, took the I-69 Exit 114 to turn onto Brown, and then onto Eastside Lane, where authorities received another complaint in reference to erratic driving, MPD reported.

When police came in contact with Purce shortly after midnight, he refused to comply and ignored commands to stop, officers said. He was extremely erratic, screaming and cursing as he walked away from police, who then deployed tasers in an attempt to take Purce into custody. Officers used pepper spray after the man kicked the cruiser door and window.

He was charged with DUI, resisting arrest, second-degree disorderly conduct and third-degree assault.
