lightningMADISONVILLE, Ky. (9/7/19) — Madisonville Fire and Electric departments responded to several calls Tuesday evening after a gusty stormfront blew across the city.

MFD reported Station 1 crews were dispatched to an alarm 6:48 p.m. at 21 N. Spring St. for part of a tree that had fallen onto the roof of the home.

There was a burning wire odor, though no smoke or fire was showing as firefighters arrived on scene, according to the report. The broken tree part struck the home’s electrical power service and pulled it off the home. Crews turned off the main breaker and requested Madisonville Municipal Utilities to disconnect the service line. The homeowner was told to call an electrician for repair.

Previously, Station 2 crews were called out 6:11 p.m. Tuesday to Richmond Drive for a possible lightning strike and tree on a home, which was unfounded after crews arrived on scene.

After investigating, MFD reported finding a tree limb had fallen on a power line connected to a home that damaged the weather head. Firefighters cleared two trees that had fallen across the road, and turned over the scene to MMU.

Crews from MFD Station 2 responded to a call from a lady at 6:11 p.m. to Boggess Boulevard, another report listed. She told firefighters the storm had blown her patio umbrella onto the roof of her home. Crews used a ladder to retrieve the umbrella.

Station 1 crews also responded 6:49 p.m. Tuesday to the intersection of East Broadway and Union streets. The storm caused a tree limb to fall on power lines. The scene was taped off and city electrical crews were assigned repair tasks.
