KAC 1MADISONVILLE, Ky. (8/10/19) — Thirteen outstanding individuals from around the community participated in the First United Bank and Trust Co. “Kiss Cancer Goodbye” Relay for Life fundraiser.

The top five agreed to kiss a live cow on the bank’s front lawn off North Main Street Friday to celebrate the endeavor.

Bank spokeswoman and senior vice president Jayne Hundley said they raised $1,600 for the cause.

“We always like to do something a little out of the ordinary, when it comes to raising funds for Relay as the community is finding out,” Hundley said.

The locally-owned bank has taken the lead in generating funds through creative events to help those with cancer that has included sumo wrestling and redneck relays.

Participants each received canisters and collected funds for about two weeks, and the top five would be kissing "Pearl" the cow, Hundley explained. The bank also set out collection containers.

The calf, owned by Chad and Julie Ladd of Chad Cattle Farm in Madisonville, didn’t seem to mind all the affection. Those who gathered were treated to ice cream afterward from Dibby’s mobile truck.

Madisonville Community College President Dr. Cindy Kelley was declared the winner followed by Hopkins County Schools Assistant Superintendent Marty Cline, First United Bank President/CEO Jason Hawkins, Kayte Dame of Hopkins County Young Professionals and Hopkins County Tourist and Convention Commission Director Trish Noel.
