MADISONVILLE, Ky. (9/9/19) — Seventeen Madisonville North Hopkins High School Marching Band seniors were honored during the Maroon Classic competition held Saturday evening.

The Marching Maroons performed an exhibition show, themed “Arise Above the Noise,” following performances of nine competing bands at Maroons Stadium.

The 10-time Class AAAA Kentucky Music Educators Association champions are set for their first non-sanctioned competition Saturday night at Castle High School in Indiana.

Band Booster President Bear Coursey said the first sanctioned contest is Sept. 28 during the Festival of Champions in Murray.

“It’s always a big contest in Murray,” Coursey said. “We love going down there and competing with a lot of good bands.”

The Maroons will travel to Hopkinsville Oct. 12 for state semi-finals and regional competition Oct. 19. The state competition is the last weekend in October.

“They sound great this year, and I think they’ll do well,” he said. “Our Class AAAA was restructured this year, and there’s a lot of competition and good bands. There’s six-to-eight bands that could win first-place at any given time.”

The seniors honored included Kaleigh Brown, Bethany Burbage, Cameron Clark, Noah Cook, Alex Crutcher, Jacob Elkins, Sophia Evans, Carly Green, Donavon Hallum, Caleb Hardesty, Briana McNary, Cassie Rogers, Teresa Sandefur, Kourtnie Sharp, Ariana White, Silong Young and Lucas Pendley.
