police chase rdsMADISONVILLE, Ky. (10/6/19) — A Madisonville driver was flown from the scene of a crash after he ran from a city police officer and crashed early this morning.

Ronald E. Willis, 31, faces a number of criminal charges.

A Madisonville Police Department preliminary traffic report lists Officer Taylor Childress was on graveyard shift patrol and observed a 1986 pickup truck run a stoplight at the intersection of Island Ford Road and Whittington Drive at 2:39 a.m.

Willis continued along Island Ford in an “erratic and reckless manner,” police wrote. The officer activated police lights to make a traffic stop, but Willis kept going. A low-speed pursuit ensued through the county for approximately 30 minutes.

MPD reported it was later discovered the vehicle was stolen earlier in the day. As Willis entered the intersection of Onton and Weldon roads, the pickup crashed into a field off the road.

Due to injuries, PHI medical helicopter flew Willis from the scene to Deaconess Midtown Trauma Center, according to the report.

He faces multiple traffic violation and criminal charges as a result of the pursuit, police said.

McLean County Sheriff’s Office, Hanson Fire Department and Medical Center Ambulance assisted.
