asphalt 2016HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (11/5/19) — Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Department of Rural and Municipal Aid officials recently announced $466,493 in discretionary funds for vital resurfacing work on three Hopkins County roads.

Resurfacing repairs address existing surface cracks, potholes, raveling, and base failures. The investment supports Gov. Matt Bevin’s commitment to prioritize transportation infrastructure projects and increase economic opportunity across the commonwealth.

“The Bevin Administration continues to focus on taking care of what we have at both the state and local level to address critical infrastructure needs that improve safety and support job creation and retention,” said KYTC Secretary Greg Thomas. “This funding builds upon existing transportation investments and allows the Cabinet to collaborate with local governments to identify projects that will have a large impact in communities.”

Hopkins County Judge-Executive Jack Whitfield previously identified roads as being among the most critical in the county.

“Once again, the governor and the state are helping Hopkins County to continue to grow and improve,” Whitfield stated.

Projects submitted to the Department of Rural and Municipal Aid for discretionary fund consideration were evaluated by the KYTC district staff to assess the condition of roads and determine the most critical needs based on factors such as safety, economic impact, and traffic volumes, state officials reported.

The improvements made to Farmers Crossing, High Banks Ferry Road and Logan Road will create a safer roadway conditions, according to KYTC. The road work will significantly improve the drivability of each route and will directly impact approximately 65 homes.

Hopkins County is responsible for administering the work, and KYTC will reimburse the city for the projects.

Resurfacing work will address:

· High Banks Ferry Road (County Road 1062) – resurfacing .66 miles
· Farmers Crossing Road (County Road 1161) – resurfacing 2.4 miles
· Logan Road (County Road 1333) – resurfacing 3.1 miles
