Police LightEARLINGTON, Ky. (1/13/20) — A Madisonville driver faces a third DUI charge following a traffic stop in Earlington.

Trooper Cody Kromer Kentucky State Police Post 2 observed the driver of a 2008 black Nissan Rogue moving carelessly along Oakwood Avenue at 10:27 p.m. Saturday, according to a KSP report.
A traffic stop was made on the driver, identified as Kandice Barnhill, 41. Through further investigation, KSP reported Trooper Kromer discovered Barnhill to be under the influence, and in possession of a substance believed to be methamphetamine and various prescription pills.
Trooper Trevor High was also present during the traffic stop, and made contact with a passenger in Barnhill’s vehicle, identified as Jeffery Smith, 38 of Marion. Further investigation revealed Smith was also under the influence, and in possession of marijuana, troopers said.

While being booked into Hopkins County Jail, KSP reported Smith had hidden possible meth, various prescription pills and a substance believed to be heroin on himself.

Barnhill was charged with DUI-third offense, careless driving, improper equipment, no driver’s license, first-degree possession of meth, third-degree possession of a controlled substance, open alcohol beverage container in vehicle and failure to notify DOT of address change.

Smith was charged with possession of marijuana, public intoxication (excludes alcohol), first-degree promoting contraband, first-degree possession of meth (third or greater offense), first-degree possession of heroin and third-degree possession of a controlled substance.
