5b685804c7816vet ffffffEARLINGTON, KY., — Robert 'Bob' Davenport, 87, of Earlington passed away October 14, 2017 with family by his side after a long and heroic battle with COPD.

Bob was born in Earlington on August 5, 1930 to Edith L. Howell and Robert E. Davenport. He grew up in Earlington was an Eagle Scout and graduated from Earlington High School. He attended Evansville College for 2 years and transferred to the University of Kentucky where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.

In 1952, he was drafted in the Army. After attending Officers Candidate School, he served in the field artillery as a liaison officer to Air Force installations in Washington state. He later served in the Judge Advocate General Reserve Corp, retiring with rank of Lt. Colonel.

In 1955, Bob married Patricia A. McNerney in Vancouver, Washington and they moved to Denver. He graduated from the University of Denver Law School in 1957. While there he clerked for the Honorable Fancis Knauss of the Colorado Supreme Court. Bob went to work for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in 1958 as a staff attorney. He served as Chief Enforcement Attorney from 1968 – 1974 and then was appointed Regional Administrator of the Central Regional Office. He received the SEC Distinguished Service Award in 1978 and the Presidential Rank Award for Meritorious Executive in 1983 and 1989. In 1995, he was honored with the Commission’s Special Act Award. Bob loved his work with the SEC and after 38 years retired in 1996. Following retirement, he and Patty traveled to the Philippines and Croatia while Bob worked as a consultant. In 2002 he joined the Jones and Keller Law Firm in Denver.

Bob and Patty moved to Broomfield in 1958 where they stayed for his lifetime. He was a founding member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter. Bob was active in community affairs related to Broomfield including Open Space, Lakeview and Broomfield Commons Cemeteries, Senior Resource Board and the Veteran’s Museum. Bob was a Rotarian, Mason and Shriner. He was awarded the Heart of Broomfield Award in 2008. Bob loved anything from Kentucky and had a lifelong passion for nature and fishing. He was always after the ‘big one’.

Bob is survived by his wife of 62 years Patty, daughter Jane Lucas and son-in-law Alan Lucas and their children Philip and Dana of Brookline, MA., son Robert Davenport and daughter-in-law Christy Davenport and their daughter Aubrey of Ladera Ranch, CA.

Services were held in Broomfield, Colorado.
