city paducah 300PADUCAH, Ky. (7/26/16) — The Paducah Board of Commissioners along with city directors will participate in a Next Steps Workshop led by the National Research Center from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., on Wednesday, July 27 at City Hall.

NRC Vice President Michelle Kobayashi will facilitate the strategic planning session. The workshop’s purposes are to analyze the results of Paducah’s National Citizen Survey, compare them to the 2013 survey results, assess priorities, and select strategic action topics for further review. Following the workshop, the Paducah Board of Commissioners will hold a regular meeting for city business items.

The city of Paducah contracted to utilize the National Citizen Survey to gather feedback from citizens about community livability which includes city services, civic participation, governance and various community topics.

Paducah’s previous survey was conducted in 2013. The Next Steps Workshop held that year led to the identification of three strategic action topics: Neighborhood Revitalization, Economic Development, and Community Engagement. Committees for each topic were developed with progress made under each category.

City Manager Jeff Pederson says, “This is our second NRC survey, and we now have the ability to compare city services today with how residents rated them three years ago. This second survey shows that we have improved in several areas; however, we will continue to use this valuable feedback to focus on areas where we can improve.”

In April and May of this year, the NRC mailed the National Citizen Survey to 1400 randomly selected households in Paducah. The city of Paducah had a return rate of 29 percent with the completion of 370 surveys. In order to get an accurate return rate, the number of surveys mailed to empty apartments or vacant homes was subtracted from the initial value of 1400. The NRC expects a return rate of 25-40 percent for a statistically valid sample.

The multiple-choice survey is a standardized survey tool used by hundreds of cities. The International City/County Management Association and the NRC developed the survey.
