May 2018 primary muhlMUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. (1/1/18) — The topsy-turvy juxtapositions of candidate filings continues to grow as several elected officer holders vie for other Muhlenberg County positions for the 2018 May Primary Election.

Jailer Mark Curry is running for Magistrate District 3 against fellow Democrats Barry Gardner, Ross Jones, Cecil Mangrum and Jeff Vincent. Muhlenberg deputies Terry Nunley and Terry Vick are running for Muhlenberg Jailer. Both are Democrats.

Former Muhlenberg Circuit Court Clerk Janet Hearld is running for one of the eight Central City Council positions. The council is non-partisan and is decided by the top eight vote-getters in the General Election.

Harvey Joe VanHook, R-Greenville, has filed to run for Muhlenberg Property Valuation Administrator against Belinda S. McKinney, D-Drakesboro. So far, both are unopposed in their parties and would face off in the November General Election.

Jay McElwain, R-Dunmor, has filed for Constable in District 2 against fellow Republicans Jordan Mallory of Belton and Don Paschal of Belton. Democrat Eddie Brake of Drakesboro has also filed.

In Magisterial District 5, Terry Amos, D-Central City, has filed along with Democrats Greg Rager, Kevin Gunn and Troy Flener. Republican Andrew Bullock is also running.

Magisterial District 4 has seven contenders now with Democrats Kelly Melton, Jeffrey Thomas Spurlin and Barry W. Waltrip recently filing to face incumbent Brent Sherrod, Allen Matthew Harris and Keith Phillips for the Democratic nomination. Republican Charles Short has also filed.
