social media logoMUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. (3/19/18) — A bully waiting to start something on the playground or a sexual predator lurking behind the bushes were some of the parental fears of yesteryear. Today, the playground has expanded — a world of information, photographs, predators and cyber bullies are as close as a child’s hands via their cell phones.

Muhlenberg County Schools is taking a proactive approach to help parents and caregivers protect their children in the digital world by offering information crucial to today’s school safety.

A special seminar called “Digital Parenting: Raising Children in a Social Media World” will be offered to adults from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today, March 19 at Felix Martin Hall at Muhlenberg County High School West Campus.

Scott Harvey, a former law enforcement official, will talk about topics including cell phone apps, cyber bullying and photo vaults during the program.

Superintendent Robbie Davis spoke to Greater Muhlenberg Chamber members about the upcoming seminar during the chamber’s recent noon luncheon meeting Feb. 15, the day following the school shooting in Florida. School safety was part of his program including school system precautions and urging attendance at the March 19 seminar.

Childcare will be provided for Muhlenberg County students in grades K-8 during the program including movies, snacks, games and prizes. Children under age 18 will not be permitted in the auditorium due to the graphic nature of workshop content.

Doors open at 5:15 p.m. March 19 at Felix Martin Hall.
