breakingnews surfky 300GREENVILLE, Ky. (2/21/18) — Two Muhlenberg North Middle School students have been criminally charged today as the result of a joint investigation between the school system and Greenville Police Department.

According to GPD PIO Wes Miller, the two students had posted threatening messages on social media.

One student was charged with second-degree disorderly conduct, a Class B misdemeanor, while the other was charged with second-degree terroristic threatening, which is a Class D. felony. Due to both students being juveniles, the names are being withheld.

A statement released by GPD said:

“Muhlenberg County Schools and law enforcement are involved in a joint effort to make student safety a top priority.  We want every student to feel safe while at school.  We will continue to address any viable threat and prosecute the offenders to the fullest extent of the law.

“We encourage parents to talk to their students on a regular basis about school safety, responsible social media use, and appropriate behavior at school.  If anyone hears a verbal threat or sees a threatening or concerning message on social media, we encourage parents and students to report the information to school staff or law enforcement immediately.  We discourage forwarding a threatening message on social media, as this creates potential public alarm.  Anyone who sees a threat on social media and forwards the message or posts it for others to see could potentially face criminal charges for further promoting the incident.”
