embry groves arrestsMUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. (3/19/18) — A high-speed chase that started in Central City ended on the outskirts of Bremen Thursday evening as the driver of a white Ford Mustang allegedly fled from multiple law enforcement agencies.

What started as a pursuit by the Muhlenberg County Sheriff’s Office was joined by Central City Police Department Officer Jeremy Mahan around 6 p.m. as he saw the 2000 Mustang traveling at high speeds on Phillip Stone Way, said police.

A CCPD press release said CCPD and MCSO were joined by Kentucky State Police as the Mustang sped along Kentucky 81 North toward Bremen. The Mustang began stalling out and struck a KSP cruiser in the 7000 block of Kentucky 81 North, which is near the intersection of Kentucky 81 and Kentucky 181 just inside the Muhlenberg County line.

CCPD charged the driver, 41-year-old James Embry II of Morgantown, with first-degree fleeing/evading police/vehicle, first-degree wanton endangerment/police officer, disregarding a stop sign, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs – first offense, speeding 26 MPH over the limit, operating on a suspended operator’s license, failure of non-owner to maintain insurance – first offense, no registration plates, reckless driving, first-degree criminal mischief, first-degree possession of a controlled substance/meth – first offense and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A passenger in the vehicle, 45-year-old Carrie Groves of Bowling Green was also charged with tampering with physical evidence, first-degree possession of methamphetamine – first offense and first-degree promoting contraband.

Embry and Groves are being held in the Muhlenberg Detention Center.
