RFF 1WESTERN KENTUCKY (8/14/19) — Kentucky’s Run for the Fallen will span several western Kentucky counties Sept. 7 and 8 starting at the Shelton Memorial in Owensboro and concluding at the Veterans Cemetery in Hopkinsville. Saturday’s portion includes an End of Day ceremony in Muhlenberg County.

Wednesday, U.S. Army veteran Chris Conley, who served eight years with the 101st Airborne, ran the route to get a feel for the terrain and help raise awareness of the upcoming run. He stopped at the Muhlenberg County Board of Education and Greenville and Longest elementary schools.

The run brings attention to and honors Kentucky’s members of the U.S. Armed Forces that have died as a result of serving during the War on Terror and in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom and New Dawn.

The event begins at 7 a.m. Sept. 7 at the Shelton Memorial kicking off the two-day, 100-mile run through Owensboro and Rome in Daviess County; Calhoun, Rumsey and Sacramento in McLean County; Bremen, Central City, Powderly and Greenville in Muhlenberg County; White Plains and Nortonville in Hopkins County; Crofton and Hopkinsville in Christian County; and finishing at the Veterans Cemetery West at around 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8 in Hopkinsville. When the run ends its Saturday portion in Muhlenberg County Saturday afternoon, the End of Day Ceremony will be held at the Muhlenberg County High School West Campus at Kentucky 601 and Kentucky 189 in Greenville. During the Muhlenberg ceremony, Team Fastrax, a professional parachute team, will present the Colors as Lillian Chaney sings The National Anthem. Lillian is the daughter of Dr. Brian and Megan Chaney of Greenville.

At top, Chris Conley speaks with students at Longest Elementary School during his trek along the Kentucky Run for the Fallen path.
