CCPD SWAC 1CENTRAL CITY, Ky. (12/18/19) — Loads of eager children enjoyed a pancake breakfast and a movie Saturday morning at Central City Convention Center as the annual "Shop with a Cop" event kicked off.

After the movie, drawings were held for two bicycles donated by the Central City Fire Department. Goodie bags were given out and everyone left the convention cetner to reconnect at Walmart for the shopping spree.

Central City Police Chief Jimmy Beadnell said the event has been held for approximately 10 years.

"We plan for 100 children, and we like to have $100 per child to spend for Christmas," the chief said. "This year, we wanted to change it around a little bit. We wanted to meet and serve them breakfast and let them watch a movie and have positive interaction with the police ... they can see us in a positive light and maybe they will be more forthcoming, and see us more as a friend, moreso than being scared of us. That's the ulitmate goal."

Greenville Police Chief Darren Harvey and Assistant Chief Dwayne Harvey greeted their CCPD brothers as GPD officers wrapped up their Shop with a Cop event.

"We had just under 30 kids shopping this morning," Darren said. Greenville Elementary and South Elementary Rescourse Centers came up with the list of kids, each kid got $100. We met here this morning and everything has gone well. We ended up with six officers here helping with the event."

The wives and families of the Central City officers helped facilitate the pancake breakfast, and are concentrating on having more fundraising events throughout the year to make the event even bigger next year.
