coalminerCENTRAL CITY, Ky. (2/14/20) — The Western Kentucky Coal Co. LLC Genesis Mine located in Centertown previously announced their intentions to close Feb. 24 or within the next two weeks afterward.

Jointly, the West Kentucky Workforce Board and the Green River Workforce Board’s Rapid Response teams will hold two informative sessions for the 250 workers affected by the closing of Genesis Mine, Melissa Thompson of the PADD Workforce Board reported in a press release.

At the sessions, the Rapid Response team will provide the dislocated workers with information on the means to maintain an income (unemployment insurance), information on health insurance options, access to skills upgrading and training resources, and much more.

The goal of the program is to transition workers into reemployment as quickly as possible. Rapid Response sessions conducted will introduce workers to the re-employment, retraining and support services to which they are entitled.

Workers facing layoff are highly encouraged to attend the scheduled sessions, to ensure awareness of the full array of benefits, the board indicated.

The Rapid Response team scheduled sessions for 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26 at the Career Advancement Center, located at 50 Career Way in Central City.
