KYTC 2017WESTERN KENTUCKY (4/15/19) — A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans traffic paint striping across the 11 western Kentucky counties in KYTC District 2 starting Monday, April 15.

Motorists should be alert for mobile paint caravans on the move along highways across the region. Initially, there will be three paint caravans working in Caldwell, Ohio and Christian counties.

Another two traffic paint caravans will ramp up work within another week or two.  This makes it likely motorists will encounter a crew on the road sometime through the spring and summer months as they go about their work.

Thee mobile pain caravans will be on the road during daylight hours anytime weather allows.

While the paint is a special fast-drying reflective formula, motorists are reminded to avoid driving through fresh paint.  On two-lane highways, crews will be running under normal highway speeds.  The paint trucks and support vehicles will making several passes on each highway segment to place reflective paint along edges and down the center line.  To complete their work in a timely manner, the paint caravans will have to run for extended distances before pulling over to let traffic pass.

Motorists are asked to use appropriate caution and exercise patience as crews work.

Motorists should be aware that the mobile caravans will be working along all types of highways.  Generally, pavement markings get repainted about every two to three years depending on traffic count and other factors.

Reynolds-Central Seal Joint-Venture is the prime contractor on this $1.6 million roadway traffic paint striping project for KYTC District 2.
