KYTC 2017OHIO COUNTY, Ky. (10/7/19) — Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans a lane and load width restriction on the U.S. 62 Green River Bridge at Rockport Tuesday.

This lane and 8-feet load width restriction is to allow the use of a UBIV- Under Bridge Inspection Vehicle and climbers to conduct a detailed inspection of the bridge structure, KYTC reported.

This work zone is expected to be active 8 a.m- 2 p.m. Tuesday, state highway officials indicated. Motorists should be alert for one lane traffic with alternating flow controlled by flaggers. Appropriate caution is required where equipment, flaggers, and construction personnel are along the roadway in close proximity to traffic.

All Kentucky bridges get a detailed inspection every two years with long-span river and lake bridges getting an additional annual walk-through inspection.
Also known as the Rockport Bridge, the U.S. 62 Green River Bridge is at Muhlenberg County mile point 25.918 and Ohio County mile point 0.0.

The 1,839-foot cantilevered Warren truss structure was constructed by Public Works Administration in 1938. While some embellishments have been removed over the years, the bridge piers feature art deco concrete work that was a trademark of many WPA projects.

Approximately 2,250 vehicles cross the U.S. 62 Green River Bridge at Rockport in an average day. The bridge is at Green River navigation mile point 94.6.
