Softball 2018OWENSBORO, Ky. (5/16/19) — Daviess County fell behind in the opening inning and couldn't overcome its slow start as visiting Christian County pulled away to win 15-8 in a high school softball game on Wednesday.

With the loss, Daviess County dropped to 17-12.

Christian County improved to 24-6 with the win.

Hannah Sumner earned the pitching win for the Lady Colonels. Sumner allowed 13 hits and eight runs over seven innings, striking out five.

Cameron Hamilton took the pitching loss for the Lady Panthers. Hamilton pitched three innings, allowing 10 runs on seven hits while striking out one.

Macy Lancaster, Tyler Shemwell and Reni Shemwell each belted a home run for the Lady Colonels.

Christian County tallied 15 hits. Tyler Shemwell, Pickle Winkler and Kelsey O'Daniel each recorded multiple hits for the Lady Colonels. Highly productive offensively, Tyler Shemwell went 5-for-5 at the plate to lead Christian County to the victory.

Daviess County finished with 13 hits. Abby Newman, Sydney Honard, Emily Stanley and Emma Young each delivered multiple hits for the Lady Panthers. Newman led Daviess County at the plate, connecting for three hits in five at-bats. Another Daviess County batter, Millie Roberts, smacked a home run.
