ksp cruiserLIVERMORE, Ky. (6/27/19) — A Kentucky State Police Trooper was injured during a high-speed chase that spanned two counties this afternoon starting and ending in McLean County and the arrest of a Daviess County man.

KSP Trooper Adam Wright was patrolling shortly after 2 p.m. in McLean County when he saw a 2000 Saturn speeding while headed south on U.S. 431. After Wright stopped the vehicle in Island, the driver sped away. While in pursuit, Wright learned the Saturn was reported stolen from Owensboro.

KSP said as the Saturn headed south into Muhlenberg County, it reached speeds up to 100 MPH. When the driver headed north along Kentucky 81, McLean County deputies joined the pursuit. When the vehicles headed onto Bunn Cobb Road, Rumsey, Wright did not see a sharp curve and crashed into an earth embankment.

The Saturn continued to Kentucky 138 and Kentucky 2110, where MCSO deputies were able to “box-in” the vehicle and the driver stopped without further incident, said KSP.

KSP charged Tony E. Vanover, 50 of Owensboro with first-degree possession of a controlled substance/drug unspecified, receiving stolen property over $10,000/vehicle, no insurance, first-degree wanton endangerment/police officer, first-degree criminal mischief, first-degree fleeing/evading police/vehicle, speeding, disregarding a traffic control device and failure to use turn signals. Vanover is being held in the Daviess County Jail.

Wright sustained minor injuries to the face and was treated at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. His 2017 Dodge Charger was heavily damaged, said KSP spokesman Trooper Corey King.
