Prov apcPROVIDENCE, Ky. (10/16/17) — Kentucky State Police are investigating the Providence Police Department’s assistant chief, who was arrested today and charged with official misconduct.

51-year-old Larry “Alan” King of Madisonville failed to perform his official duties as a police officer by not reporting criminal activity or taking enforcement action, KSP Post 2 reported.

During the course of an ongoing investigation related to a Webster County Middle School teacher, KSP discovered that the assistant chief was having a sexual relationship with the teacher, according to a Post 2 press release.

“It was found that the teacher confided in King that she has deviant sexual fantasies about young teenage boys and is also a regular user of illegal narcotics,” KSP wrote.

The report also listed King intentionally failed to act on the knowledge of the potential deviant sexual behavior with students nor reported or investigated any of the alleged illegal narcotic use to the Webster County School Board.

KSP indicated King did not report to others “including his police department chain of command. King failed to act with the intent to obtain or confer a benefit, knowingly, refrained from performing a duty imposed upon him by law or clearly inherent in the nature of his office.”

Earlier this month, KSP reported 48-year-old Lucia C. Jenkins, a Webster County Middle School teacher, was charged Oct. 3 with four counts of possession or viewing matter portraying a sexual performance of a minor after finding alleged cell phone photographs that depicted a minor in a sexual performance.

King was arrested today and taken to Webster County Jail on the charge of first-degree official misconduct. He was released on $5,000 cash bond.

Master Trooper William Braden is investigating.
