Fire 01 300WHEATCROFT, Ky. (7/5/19) — Wheatcroft Fire Department was dispatched last night to a garage fire that was apparently started by a golf cart that had a mechanical issue.

Chief Kerry W. DeHaven said firefighters went out at 11:17 p.m. July 4 to 166 Hammack Street to find a fire in the attic of a garage. The homeowner was combating the fire with a water hose when WFD arrived and then quickly knocked down by fire fighters.

DeHaven said the homeowner reported having mechanical issues with a golf cart earlier in the day and the cart caught fire outside the garage and spread inside. The golf cart, a trailer and the hood to a John Deer lawn tractor were destroyed. The garage sustained moderate damage. No injuries were reported.

Clay Fire Department and Webster County Sheriff’s Department assisted at the scene.
